About Us

NSKC is affiliated to The Academy of Shotokan Karate; our Chief Instructor is Sensei Dave Hazard 7th Dan, who is an extremely skilled and respected Sensei worldwide. Sensei Hazard was one of the few students around at the beginning of British karate in the 60`s. Sensei Hazard studied under the late Sensei Enoeda, he also travelled to Japan in 1977 to study at the famous JKA to further his knowledge of karate. Sensei Hazard has continued his study of karate to a very high level and he passes this knowledge on to his students.

Under the guidance of Sensei Hazard, we maintain a very high quality of Shotokan karate. Due to regular visits and training sessions with Sensei Hazard we are directly involved with the development and evolution of Shotokan karate.

We train three times a week at the Kokoro-No-Kai, Oriental Arts Centre. This is East Anglia’s longest established Martial Arts and Spiritual practice centre. The centre is rather unique, boasting 3 large dojos (wooden or matted). One dojo is fitted with traditional Okinawan karate training equipment, i.e. Makiwara, Chishi, Kongoken, Tan, Sashi, nigiri game etc.

Who can train? - We only accept students from 12 years and upward, due to the fact that we train late in the evening on week days, and young children really need to be taught in a separate environment to adults. At the moment we do not have a separate children’s class.

Whatever your age there is something you will gain from practising karate. Although we are not a “competition” club, we do have our own Association championships which we enter – which our young students are able to participate in order to gain competition experience. For those who do not wish to take part in competitions NSKC offers:

  • Realistic self protection.
  • Healthy physical training.
  • Mentally stimulating activity.
  • Safe and disciplined training.
  • A chance to push yourself beyond your perceived limits.
  • Face your fears and overcome them.
  • Become a better person.
  • A chance to help others.
  • A study which will last you a life time.

If you already study karate or wish to begin, feel free to contact me.
The contact details can be found here.

NSKC is a non-profit making club. Which means that all money except for dojo hire stays within the club for the development of its students.
